I believe that displays of strength and heroism can be seen even in the small acts of courage. This piece is about a girl embracing her Chinese heritage, which can be just as great and daunting a task as any, especially in an environment that discourages any divergence in cultural expression. She is tentative about joining her awaiting aunts at the Mahjong table, but the door has been opened, and the chair is hers to take.
