Why, when the words hero and heroism are used, do we imagine a figure flying upward with all its force? I suppose it’s an image imposed on us by pop culture.

When I think of Asian heroism I imagine the possibility of detachment from the cravings of the ego and the animal needs of the body. Because heroism in the broad sense is the possibility to perform great deeds or selfless acts for the common good instead of the classical goal of wealth, pride, and fame.
