Being a hero, no need to overcome something big or help someone, just merely growing up as an Asian woman is already a hero to me. A patriarchal belief, which is a shared culture among Asians around the world, literally harms Asian women every day, every step of life, from birth to death. Hence, ‘Be Your Own Hero’ is to be someone. Not someone’s mother, someone’s sister, someone’s girlfriend, or someone that society expected you to be. Someone, who can survive in this society, getting through the discrimination and oppression, is truly a hero, a heroine of their story, who needed to be praised and admired. And, a hero always comes with a cape? Nope. A cool denim jacket? YES.
